Climbing wall design
I have been designing climbing walls for more than 20 years. Hired by big brands in this industry I have designed climbing centers of up to 1900m2 of climbing surface. Some of my designs have hosted the World Cup  and the World Games.
My climbing wall design services
–  3d Model for architects, engineers and constructors.

With each design I deliver a 3d model of the climbing wall and the architectural elements that condition its shape.

Usually, the first step in the design of a climbing wall is the creation of the 3d geometry that fullfills the aesthetic and functional requirements posed by the client.
At this stage, the profile of users, structural needs, and aesthetics are taken into consideration.
The result is a 3d model that can be used as a basis to generate photorealistic images.
In a later stage, starting from the  3d model, the necessary structures are projected for climbing safely , as well as the technical drawings to produce and install the climbing wall.

– Basic visualization

With each climbing wall design I deliver 2-3 basic visualizations along with the 3d model.

My basic visualization service consists of images that describe the design without going into the details and realism of the photorealistic images. The environment is described in a limited and simplified way, the lighting, characters, materials, shading style and details, in general, are not photorealistic.
In any case, they are still quality images, which are fundamental to show the client the design. You can take a look to some examples of my basic rendering service in this gallery. I also deliver technical drawings with sections every 1.5m away, as seen in this video.

– Technical drawings for panel cutting.

This service consists of the delivery of the technical drawings to cut the panels and their joining pieces, as well as all the drawings to assemble the faces of the climbing wall.

I can make cutting drawings of panels for both manufacturers that have CNC technology, as well as for those who make the cut manually.
For CNC cutting I can deliver each panel in a DXF file or deliver them grouped in a rectangle with the dimensions of the plywood sheet, a process called nesting.
For manual cutting I give each panel with all the necessary dimensions and also with the nestig already done.
For this process I use tools that I have developed specifically, that allow me to process large surfaces in a short time and that you can see in action in this video.

– Structural design & analysis

3D modeling of the structures, and making of all the necessary technical drawings to build and assemble the climbing wall structures, as well as the delivery of the engineering reports that result from the structural analysis.

A complete pack of detailed drawings for the manufacture of climbing wall structures, lists of materials, and plans for assembly is delivered.

My climbing wall design workflow
    1-Information upload

Once we have agreed to work together i will need you to send me the design requirements along with all the available information: sketches, CAD drawings, details of the structure or wall that will support your climbing facility, photos, user profiles, etc.

       2-Data verification

The first thing I do is verify all the information you sent and ask for more details if necessary. This avoids major delays in later processes.

       3-Begin to work

After checking that I have understood well all the sent information, I begin my work.
I make an initial design proposal, producing one or more design alternatives, in terms of shape and color.

   4-Revision

I send the initial proposal in a 3d file, along with some visual for you to analyze the design and make the necessary observations and corrections in terms of functionality, aesthetics, color and interaction with the surrounding environment.
This process includes a structural approach, usually coordinating and contrasting information and opinions with the professional in charge of the work in the place, (engineer, architect or project manager) until having clearly defined what will be the support for the structures of the climbing wall and that these will not interfere with any existing element of the building.
This is a two-way process that ends when the client approves the design.

       5-Approval

I make technical drawings of the climbing wall structures, including ingineering calculations made by  finite element analysis software according to the efforts required by the UNE_EN12572 standards. These structures and calculations must be verified by the engineer responsible for the construction in the place, who can request the necessary changes to give his approval and signature.

   6-Delivery of final drawings

After the final verification of the structures, I proceed to make the final fabrication and installation plans. This includes detailed drawings and a list of materials to make the structures; cutting and nesting plans of the panels and other elements that make up the climbing surface, either by manual method or by cnc router, and installation plans.

       7-Support

During the manufacturing and installation process, I am available for any consultation or change that may be necessary.

Workflow: algorithmic modeling

I use my own algorithms to analyze the geometry , to extract a detailed inform about slopes and length of the climbing lines, to automatically obtain detailed sections, and so on.
